Mar 16, 2018 // Home //

Ready to move into your first apartment? Searching for a place? Your first apartment, whether a rental or something you own, is a massive step. With that said, you can make the process quite smooth by preparing yourself well. Here are five tips to help you move into your first apartment without a hitch:

Be Ready To Organize

When you are settled into your new place, you will need to organize your new surroundings. Make sure to purchase as many of the supplies as you can in advance, such as bins to organize the supply closest, dividers for drawers, et cetera. This will increase what you have to move to your new place, but will make unpacking simpler.

Unpack Early

Speaking of unpacking, try to unpack everything from your clothes to your knick-knacks as soon as possible. This will help you feel at home quicker, though of course there will still be some adjustment. You can get rid of your boxes in the recycling bin, but you may also want to flatten a few and store them if you have the space, just so you keep them handy.

Ask For Assistance

In many cases, it will be almost impossible to move into your first apartment without any help. The good news? There is no shame in asking someone to help you move boxes or to unpack certain things. If you think you are going to need help, ask! We would recommend offering something in return, such as paying for dinner. They will be more inclined to help that way.

Consolidate Deliveries

Do you need to purchase any big ticket items for your first apartment, such as a couch, dining table, or television? If you have multiple items like this, try coordinating the deliveries into one as much as possible. Ideally, make them the same time as your move-in day—there is less disturbance for your neighbours and you get everything done in one go this way.

Set Up Utilities Immediately

Do not let yourself go without electricity, water, or other utilities. Call the company and make sure you set everything up quickly! Make life get back to normal as soon as possible for the most comfort.
