3 Tips For Cleaning The Apartment Before Moving In
Nov 30, 2018 // Home //

Before you really move into a new place, you might want to take time for cleaning the apartment. Why? You want to start off with a clean slate! Of course, the apartment should have been cleaned prior to you moving in, any good place would be. But even if that’s the case, there are still some things you should consider doing before moving in. Here are three of the main things related to cleaning the apartment now:

Take Pictures Immediately

Before you move your things into your new apartment—even before you start cleaning—you should take pictures of the entire space. This provides photo evidence of what the place looked like upon move in. This way, you will know if you can deny paying for damage you did not do and such if it comes up during your time renting or when you are moving out. Ideally, you should make sure the date is on the photos. We also recommend as an extra precaution (if you are really worried about it) to mail a copy of the pictures to yourself and never opening the envelope (until/unless you need it).

Disinfect Surfaces

Even though someone will have likely cleaned the apartment before you get there, you should still consider disinfecting surfaces like the countertops, door handles, and the toilet seat. This helps get rid of any lingering germs. You can then live in the apartment without worrying about what the previous tenants might have left behind.

Don’t Forget Walls

Even if someone cleaned your new apartment prior to your move in day, there is still a high chance they did not clean the walls. Yes, you should clean them occasionally, so why not do it now? You might be surprised at how dirty they can actually get, particularly in spaces like the kitchen or the bathroom. You can likely get away with an all-purpose cleaner for this task.
