A clean home is a comfortable one. Regularly cleaning your living space helps to clear your head—trust us on this one! The majority of people purchase their cleaning supplies at the store, often because of the convenience and marketing. However, sometimes the chemicals in commercial products can cause allergic reactions, skin irritations, et cetera. Want to avoid this? You can be much friendlier to the environment (and your senses) by using homemade cleaner around your house as much as possible. Below we’ve compiled a couple key recipes for you to try out:

Oven Cleaner

Some ovens are marketed as self-cleaning, but even so, you should still clean the interior yourself every so often. A simple oven cleaner is all you need! To make it at home, you just need baking soda, vinegar, and water. For the average oven, you need half a cup of vinegar and baking soda (each), as well as a couple tablespoons of water. Make a paste with the baking soda and water before spreading it in the oven, covering the walls and base. Leave this for a little while to dry (e.g. for a couple hours) before putting the vinegar in a spray bottle. Spray the vinegar on the baking soda paste. This should form a bubbling reaction, which you can then wipe away with a sponge or paper towel.

All Purpose Cleaner

Do you need a general house cleaner you can use on countertops, desks, and other surfaces in your home? You need an all-purpose cleaner! To make a simple disinfecting all purpose cleaner, gather two tablespoons baking soda, half a cup of white vinegar, and a couple drops of lemon or tea tree essential oil. This final ingredient is what gives your cleaner its disinfecting properties (and a lovely smell). Mix these together in a spray bottle and fill to the top with water. Use as you would a commercial all purpose cleaner.
